Here's my take how women would like to be taught to do the "approach" part of network marketing. And, how we'd like to be treated at the other end of a mini sales "pitch". It's from the new intro to my experimental Squidoo site...

Network Marketing for Women is for someone who wants to market their products without hype or gimmicks. And without sounding like a high pressure salesperson.

It's for someone who does not have lots of confidence, and who may have gotten a few surprise no's from people they know.

Ladies, what if you discovered that the best way to treat your prospective customer (whether you know her or not) that first time is more like flirting than scoring? We women don't expect to jump into the back seat the first night, do we? No matter what the boys hope and angle for. Well, sales is like that.

Treat prospective customers, including friends, like you do the guy on that first date - open the kimono just a little, then step back. Just a hint will do. Would you ruin the mystery (and your edge) by stripping down that first night?

I know the guys in front of the room make it sound easy - that everyone will want this product - that it sells itself. But that's like the guy saying all the girls want him. Hahaha!

Other women who are open to something don't need more that just a little story about how it's helped you. If, after you tell it, you don't hear an "Oh that sounds like me!" reaction, you can let go. Isn't that how you'd want to be treated? No pressure on either side that way. And you can remain friends.

There is always someone else who's looking for the kind of product that helped you. All women are looking for ways to get more done in a day, lose weight, look better, or feed their family better. Promise.

It's just about how motivated they are do do something about it right then, and whether the alternative you offered fits her worldview. No pressuring, remember? That's what WE hate about salesmen, isnt it?

Remember there are nearly 300 million people in the US alone. All you need is a few hundred customers to start things going. Relatively speaking, that's almost no one. :)

Where Do You Live? in the Magic or the Mundane?

As I stood outside at dusk one evening just before the light faded, I suddenly felt the movement of air on my cheek. And there, swooping in front of me was an owl! He circled round right in front of me and then flew up into the tree.

Strange, an owl, here in town.

Meditating one morning later that week I hear a knock at the front door. I decide to stay put, hoping they'll come back later. But no, the knocking continued. I realize it sounds like a child's knock and peek from the window where I can see the front door. It's no child; there's a crow knocking at my door!

To a local medicine woman these events have great significance in my life. Each one is a message from the natural world that I need to pay attention to. Owl medicine has to do with wisdom and deception. It asks what we are in the dark about. Crow medicine teaches us how to bend the laws of the universe using magic.

Indigenous people, pagans and the ancient teachers have told us since the beginning of time that the world is speaking to us. That we are all connected to each other and to all things. The energy flowing through the pebble is the same energy flowing through the lion and through us. Nothing is separate, all is linked.

Science has finally caught up with what the ancient masters.

Physicists studying the world on the quanta level now say that everything, including ourselves, is composed of energy vibrating at different levels/speeds.

What does this mean for us? That at any given moment we can open ourselves to the energy of the universe and gain information, get a sense of who we are and connect to every living organism within the world.

For me and others, it allows us to live in a world of Mystery, Magic and Miracles. Everyday I get to wake up and decide if today will be a world of the mundane or will it be a world of Magic. Most days I pick the Magic. And when I do, all kinds of fascinating things occur.

The shaman views the world as alive with Spirit---animal, mineral, or vegetable. Each offers a different form of consciousness available for wisdom, power and energy. As everything outside us is the same as everything inside us then the role of the shaman is to bring to consciousness that which we already know.

Whether it's gleaning messages from crow cawing overhead to understanding the power of the ocean, the world is viewed as energy in a constant state of relating.

This intimate relationship with nature can be experienced by a simple exercise in "intention". For one day (or more) ask a question of the universe and set your intention to pay attention to everything the universe offers you. As you go through your day, notice even the smallest event. For instance, do you find yourself seeing butterflies or dragonflies? Does the cawing of the crow get your attention?

How about your awareness being drawn to certain signs or billboards?

Notice what and where your "attention" goes. Then ask yourself what's the overall message begin delivered--how is your question being answered? You can even go so far as to go on the computer and search the meaning of certain animals appearing in your life (search animal totems).

If, as the quantum physicists and the ancient masters say that the world is more a mass of energy than solid structure and everything is connected, why wouldn't our attention being drawn to the appearance of an owl be significant? We might look at it as a way for our unconscious to communicate with us utilizing what's available on the outside and bringing it to consciousness!

And, you just might discover that the world we live in truly is a magical place.

Attention Adults: Is Multitasking a Detriment to Our Productivity?

That's an interesting question, and the answer you receive will more than likely be different depending on whom you ask. In my not-so-humble opinion, my answer is, "It depends."

A copout answer? I don't think so. Here's why:

If studies are correct in implying that women are naturally gifted in multitasking because our corpus callosum (the part of the brain that is the "mediator" of sorts between the left and right hemispheres) is wider than our male counterparts, why wouldn't women want to capitalize on that gift? On the other hand, there's the 2001 study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology (Rubinstein, Meyers, & Evans) that examines the limitations and time costs of multitasking- particularly when switching between more complex tasks.

Let's take driving as a practical example. While I doubt anyone would argue the fact that it's not a good idea to try and manipulate a cell phone while driving, one wonders where we draw the line. Is it the conversation that's distracting the driver, or is it that both hands need to be on the wheel, or some combination? What about conversations between driver and passenger (so long as they're amicable and do not produce stress)? Or the radio? Or listening to audio books and courses? After all, I heard Brian Tracy say to make your car a university on wheels! I took that advice to heart in the mid-90s!

If you're driving somewhere habitually (e.g., to and from work), then your unconscious competence kicks in, which could arguably enable you, for example, to have that pleasant conversation with your passenger or (if you have a headset piece on) a pleasant cell phone conversation. And the radio can be quite benign, says the girl who never drives in silence, regardless of where she's going!

So while multitasking might not be for everyone, I would argue that it can be beneficial to some when at least one task taps into your unconscious competence (i.e., anything that doesn't take much conscious thought to do successfully-like breathing!) and does not conflict with another cognitive process. I believe the odds of successfully accomplishing two simultaneous activities can increase without a decrease in productivity in either task if you have a whole brain orientation, rather than one hemisphere being more dominant than the other.

For example, you could combine doing housework, a physical activity that is more than likely ingrained (unconscious competence strikes again!), while learning from audio lessons on your iPod or CD player-a mental activity. I've successfully ironed, folded laundry, washed dishes, and gardened, all while learning tons from various and sundry MP3 classes I've put on my iPod. A friend of mine just told me his day went by really fast as he painted his new fence (something he'd rather not do) while enjoying Paul Simon's latest.

I've even learned about entity structuring and asset protection while illustrating the children's book I wrote and was engaged in both activities with no problems. I believe it was because there was not a cognitive conflict involved.

But you might run into problems with multitasking if you're trying to carry on a conversation with someone while checking your email, for example. You're using the same cognition with these two tasks, and as a result neither task gets the full attention it deserves. And the person you're talking to face to face (or even on the phone) may feel a bit put off.

Some argue that you should start with one task and keep working on it until you've finished it. That may be natural for many, but what about those who thrive best by "flitting" between tasks, even if it's sometimes a purely psychological benefit? Barbara Sher describes these types of people as "scanners."

In college, when we studied for our exams-especially during finals week--many of us cyclically spent fixed amounts of time on each subject to avoid driving ourselves crazy. And I'll be the first to admit that instrumental music (jazz or classical) was on while I was studying. My mind would wander in total silence, otherwise. In fact, I'm listening to contemporary jazz as I write this article! Listening to music with words I'm familiar with, however, would pose a problem for me because I would want to sing along.

I'm certainly not arguing against the power of focus, though. Heavens no! The power of focus is responsible for all sorts of wonderful outcomes. We're often in the flow, have clarity, and lose track of time when the power of focus is doing its job. When I'm really engaged in a wonderfully insightful book, and especially when I'm composing and producing my song ideas, I'm 100% present in that process, and no one had better disturb me while I'm in the throes of that creative outlet!

Then again, notable psychologist, B.F. Skinner believed that many people miss great opportunities when they adhere to finishing a preconceived plan when something unexpectedly interesting comes up. He believed that you should pursue that "something unexpectedly interesting" to see where it takes you in the name of accidental creativity.

Alexander Fleming did it when he discovered penicillin from mold, of all things, that formed when he exposed deadly bacteria he was studying to air. I've had many bouts of accidental creativity when I played an unintended chord or musical interval that sounded cooler than what my mind's ear originally heard.

I've often said that no "one size fits all" strategy exists in our approach to getting things done. What works for some people may not work for others. So I encourage you to consider circumstances, intuition, and discernment as criteria to evaluate when deciding whether myopia or multitasking is the best route for you.

1. Free Up Disk Space

A great way to make a computer run faster is to free up some disk space. Windows comes with a disk cleanup tool that helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you can safely delete without messing anything up, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

How to use disk cleanup tool.

* Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.

* In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list. (If you have multiple hard drives you will have to select which one to scan.)

* Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.

* When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click OK.

* In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
* Click the Check Now button.
* In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
* If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them.
Tip: Only select the Automatically fix file system errors check box if you think that your disk contains bad sectors.

5. Get an external hard drive

Adding an External Hard Drive to your computer will allow you to clear out a lot of the things you don't need to be storing on your normal hard drive.

A great example would be your music or pictures. All those songs and pictures are sitting on your computer making it go slower. You will see a decline in your computers performance as soon as you use over half of your hard drive space.

Moving all your songs or pictures to your external hard drive will free up a lot of space on your main hard drive. You can even move applications such as photoshop or games.

Everyone has a picture in their mind of what a stay at home mom should be. Maybe it was the commercials for the recent release of the video game based on the movie based on one of my all-time favorite novels that got me to thinking about how great marketers are just like Don Corleone, the infamous Godfather.

We all need to make em an offer they cant refuse.

Now, Im not suggesting that we all need to start sending dead fish wrapped in newspaper to anyone who doesnt buy from us, or start putting hits out on our competitors well leave those particular tactics to the Corleone family.

What I am suggesting is that, like Don Corleone, we tell our prospects all the reasons why it would be beneficial to them to do business with us. Highlight those benefits, and make it so obvious to them that they cant live (happily) without your product or service that they are dying to buy from you!

You see people dont really care about you or your company or even your product or service all that much. What they care about is how you and your product or service will benefit THEM. Youve heard of WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get)? Well, heres a new one that your customer repeats every time he reads anyones marketing copy: WIIFM (Whats In It For Me)?

So you tell him! Dont talk about boring features (the drill is black and weighs 2 lbs. 3 oz.) tell him about the benefits your drill has to offer (our drill is so light weight, you wont feel like your arm is going to fall off even after 30 minutes of continuous use!)

Your customers dont want your drill they want the hole.

Show him how your drill will solve all of his problems, save him time, make his life easier, save him money and make him look like a virtual genius to his friends and family for having chosen such a perfect drill.

By highlighting the specific benefits of your product or service, you will appeal to your prospects on an emotional level and youll have made em an offer they cant refuse!

A WAY YOU CAN OVERCOME FRUSTRATIONS

I don't know you. But I have been frustrated many times. My heart was broken many times. I divorced. I have been unemployed. I have been in the street. I have felt totally alone. I became an alcoholic. There were nights I closed my eyes waiting not to wake up any more. I was on the edge of the suicide a couple of times. I needed help like never before in my life but there was nobody around to help me. And I discovered an even worse thing: there was nobody who could really help me. As things were going I could see only two choices. Being dead or somebody to drive me back in time so I could rectify the bad decisions I took, the opportunities I lost, in short so that I can fix my life but knowing the results of my last errors ahead of time. The first thing didn't happen cause I didn't have the guts of taking away my life and simply day after day I checked that it won't happen naturally, not yet. The second chance is a fantasy. Then, sinked in the deepest bitterness and frustration, a thought began to hum in my mind. There was a tool, the only one I could count on..... my mind! I realized that all my life, and any other persons life, is governed by the group of thoughts occupying the mind. Tell a woman she looks great today and you will draw a smile in her face, you will ligth her day. Why? Because you put a pretty thought in her mind! You go to your office tomorrow, you enter in the elevator and you listen as a murmur ... poor man, his wife deceives him... and moreover theyre looking to you. Forget it man! Your day has become a hell. You have a lousy mood. You cannot concentrate on your work. And what is the reason? Because an unpleasant thought has entered in your mind! And maybe the murmur you heard in the elevator were even not referred to you! Thoughts work in this way, for or against us while occupying our mind. And they are like the stone in a pond, they can generate chain reactions in our lives of disastrous consequences. That is what I discovered. And, after that, I decided to use my mind in my favor.

I began to re-program it. And I found the only way to replace the old thoughts was putting new ones in my mind. More beneficial for my activities and my life. More powerful than those that had ruined my life. Then the computer I had up of my shoulders began to work... in the way I wanted! I began to see solutions to my problems I didn't see before. I began to feel more optimistic. I began to feel more energy every new day. And all that gave place to a dramatic change in my life. You don't need money! You don't need a specialist (that neither has lived, nor has suffered your problems) helping you to solve your problems. Take yourself the responsibility of all your errors, of all your faults and your lacks. The only thing you need is in your head! Use it! Here is the formula! Repeat, all the time you can do it, each new thought that you consider beneficial for you like a no-end tape ... (sometimes in silence others aloud) until you see results! Believe me, it works!

IN YOUR MIND YOU HAVE THE BIGGEST TOOL YOU CAN COUNT ON

In your head you have the biggest computer of the universe. Your brain represents the hardware and your thoughts the software. Although you cannot update your brain to a brain Pentium V for example, your brain is powerful enough for not to need any type of updating. However, YES, you can change the programs that govern your reactions, your attitude, your state of mind. YES, you can change the thoughts that make you act in an or another way. YES, you can program your mind with the appropriate thoughts to make your life in agreement to as you want it to be.

THOUGHTS CHANGE HUMANITY'S HISTORY

A man invented a recipe for the cough that didn't have the desired effect. Another bought it and transformed that same recipe into the most sold drink in the world. Let me ask you: Which is the difference among these two men? Answer: The thoughts occupying their minds. One had his mind programmed to make inventions, the other one to see business opportunities. Which one would you like your mind to be programmed as?

Less than 200 years behind some men ' dreamt of flying while others believed that it was impossible to achieve it. Some of them imagined themselves rising throuhg the air in a great flying machine even not knowing how to do it, while the other ones maintained their thoughts in earth. You tell me, who changed humanity's history? And, Why? In the same way in real life it is the thoughts you allow to occupy your mind that determine your success or your failure. Your thoughts are those that make you capable or unable of overcoming the setbacks. It is your thoughts that can sink you into frustration or take you out of it. Don't lose time and try it! Re-program your mind! Re-program your life! What do you have to lose? What can you win? You dont have to live frustrated. You deserve a life without frustration. You must take action now against frustration.
